The theme is ‘Sustainability of the Textile and Fashion Supply Chain – Transitioning to Zero Carbon and Zero Waste’.
The event will include presentations from industry, presented papers, forums, workshops and posters.

HRH The Princess Royal
We are extremely proud to announce that HRH The Princess Royal will attend the 92nd Textile Institute World Conference on the 6th of July, 2023, on ‘Sustainability of the Textile and Fashion Supply Chain – Transitioning to Zero Carbon and Zero Waste’ in her role as President of the UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT). HRH has a keen interest in sustainable manufacturing and has visited countless textile manufacturers over the years. The conference will include a panel discussion on the roadmap to Net-Zero chaired by Professor Parik Goswami. The panel members will be Mr Adam Mansell (CEO UKFT), Alan Williams (CEO Camira Fabrics), Richard Davies (Innovation, Technical, and Design Director, A W HAINSWORTH & SONS LTD), and Kate Goldsworthy (Chair of Circular Design & Innovation, University of the Arts London).
Dr Abhijit Majumdar, IIT Delhi
Sustainability and Circularity in the Global Textile and Fashion Supply Chain: Challenges and Opportunities
Dr Abhijit Majumdar is currently holding the position of R. Jaikumar Chair Professor for Operations Management in Textile and Fibre Engineering department at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India (IIT Delhi). He gradualted from Calcutta University in 1995 with Gold medal in Textile Technology. He also holds M.Tech and MBA degrees from IIT Delhi. He acquired Ph.D in Production Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He has 24 years of experience in academia and 2 years of experience in industry. He has authored two textbooks and edited three books. He has published 150 research papers in refereed journals which have received around 5000 citations. He has also guided 15 Ph.D scholars. He is an area editor of Operations Management Research, and Associate Editor of OPSEARCH published by Springer. He represents the editorial boards of Journal of The Textile Institure, Fibers and Polymers, Journal of Engineered Fibres and Fabrics, Cleaner Logistics and Supply Chain etc. He is the recipient of Best Industry Relevant Masters Project Supervision Award, IIT Delhi (2019); Gandhain Young Technology Innovation (GYTI) Award (2016 and 2021); Teaching Excellence Award of IIT Delhi (2015) and Outstanding Young Faculty Fellowship, IIT Delhi (2009-2014).

Sustainability in Action – Collaborating for the Future
Adam Mansell CEO of UKFT (UK Fashion and Textile Association), the trade association for fashion and textile companies in the United Kingdom, bringing knowledge, leadership and opportunity across our members and the industry. He has spearheaded the organisation’s endeavours to advance the growth and prosperity of the UK’s fashion and textile sector. With over 25 years closely with the industry, Adam is widely respected for his strategic vision for the industry’s future and dedication to promoting sustainability and ethical practices in fashion and textiles. He has been instrumental in launching several initiatives aimed at helping UK fashion and textile businesses, including the Let’s Make It Here campaign, which promotes UK manufacturing, UKFT Futures, which promotes careers in the industry and securing UKFT’s role as the government’s Sector Skills Body for fashion and textiles vocational education.
Andrew Martin, Executive Vice President, Sustainable Apparel Coalition
As Executive Vice President of the SAC, Andrew is responsible for delivering strategic and operational leadership for the organization. While continuing to oversee the Membership, Stakeholder Engagement, Collective Action, and Public Affairs teams, as second-in-command at the SAC he is responsible for driving growth of the organization to ensure it can scale impact and deliver value to members. This involves broader strategic development of the organization, including into new verticals / adjacent product categories, development of new revenue streams, and expansions of key partnerships.

Kate is a designer and academic working to bridge materials science, industry and design through multidisciplinary & practice-led research. Goldsworthy is a designer and academic whose research bridges materials science, industry and design. Her methods are transdisciplinary & practice-led, with a focus on materials and manufacturing innovation in circular economy contexts. She co-founded the Centre for Circular Design, University of the Arts London (UAL) with Prof Rebecca Earley.

After graduating in 1989 with a BA in Fine Art Printed Textiles at Liverpool School of Art, Katie went on to produce work for some of the most formative names in fashion, from luxury brands (Vivienne Westwood, Benny Ong, Paul Costello and Christian Lacroix) to high street (Next, Jigsaw, Dr Martens and French Connection).
Sean Tindale, Polygiene
SUSTAINABILITY, CIRCULARITY OR SENSIBILITY – How do we navigate the minefield of sustainability and circularity recommendations and rather promote sensible, easy to use solutions that we can prove have an impact on changing consumables into durables
Sean is currently the CMO of Polygiene and brings with him an extensive background in Brand and Marketing, including some well-known, global retail brands such as ECCO and VERO MODA. Before moving to Denmark at the end of 2012, Sean founded and led a Brand and Creative Agency in South Africa for nine years, working with some renowned international FMCG brands and some of Africa’s Leading FMCG and consumer goods businesses. Sean now lives in the far South-West corner of Denmark with his wife and three children, where they enjoy the nature of the Danish West Coast, and the community living benefits of a small town. Sean is committed to helping craft a more mindful approach to living by turning consumables into durables through a sensible and accessible approach.
Prof Stephen Russell, University of Leeds
Nonwovens: Fabrics Hidden in Plain Sight
Professor Russell is a textile engineer and a specialist in nonwovens, with a background in both academic research and industrial product development. He is a graduate of the University of Leeds (PhD in Textile Engineering) and a Fellow of the Textile Institute. He was appointed Professor in Textile Materials & Technology at the University of Leeds in 2006. He is the founding Director of the Leeds Institute of Textiles and Colour (LITAC) and Director of the Future Fashion Factory CICP (FFF), a £5.6M R&D programme, accelerating innovation in the fashion and textile industry. He is also Founding Director of the Clothworkers’ Centre for Textile Materials Innovation for Healthcare (CCTMIH) at the University of Leeds, focusing on the development of new medical devices containing textile materials. His main research interests are in textile science and nonwoven technology, structure-property relationships of textile materials and the sustainable development of the textile industry. He has ~250 publications and patents, based on numerous grant awards attracting >£30M. Professor Russell is also a founder and Group Technical Director of NIRI Ltd, a University of Leeds spin-out company formed in 2005 specialising in nonwoven product development.
